What are the legal ways to watch live TV without cable in Canada?

In Canada the legal routes are a TV antenna for free local stations, free ad-supported apps such as Pluto TV and Tubi, broadcaster apps such as CBC Gem, and paid services that sell plans in Canada, including Fubo, Crave and STACKTV. Most homes mix a free option with one paid plan.

What are the cable alternatives in Canada?

Cable alternatives in Canada are the same legal routes without a cable box: an antenna, CBC Gem, free streaming apps, and paid services such as Fubo, Crave and STACKTV that you subscribe to yourself. CTV and Global shows are covered by Crave and STACKTV rather than by a cable package. Compare current plans on each official site.

None of these replaces every channel a cable package might carry. Pick the one or two that match what you actually watch, instead of stacking several paid plans.

How do you set up live TV without cable in Canada?

Start with what you watch in a normal week, then add the free option that covers it. Check antenna reception and CBC Gem first, add Pluto TV or Tubi for always-on channels, then pay for Crave, STACKTV or Fubo only if something important is still missing. The steps below follow that order.

  1. 1

    List what you watch

Write down the news, shows and local stations you watch in a normal week, and which network carries each one.

  2. 2

    Check antenna reception

Look up your town in CBC's channels and frequencies guide, then try a digital antenna and run a channel scan.

  3. 3

    Add CBC Gem

Create a free CBC Gem account with a Canadian address and open the live CBC stream in the app or at gem.cbc.ca.

  4. 4

    Add free streaming apps

Install Pluto TV or Tubi from your device's official app store for always-on channels and on-demand shows.

  5. 5

Add CTV and Global if you need them

Use Crave for CTV and the STACKTV app for Global. Sign in with a plan or, if your TV package already includes the channel, with your TV provider.

  6. 6

Fill one gap with a paid plan

If something important is still missing, compare Fubo, Crave and STACKTV on their own sites and start with one current plan.

Can a TV antenna get you free channels in Canada?

Connect a digital antenna and scan for channels on your TV. Reception depends on which transmitters reach your address, so try the antenna higher or in another spot and scan again. CBC publishes a channels and frequencies guide that shows whether a CBC or Radio-Canada over-the-air signal reaches your town.

CBC says that if the guide lists no over-the-air signal for your area, watch CBC online at gem.cbc.ca instead. The guide is on the CBC Help Centre.

Which free streaming apps work in Canada?

Pluto TV and Tubi both offer free, ad-supported streaming in Canada, with live channels and on-demand shows. Pluto TV's Canadian page says the service is free and needs no payment, and you can watch at pluto.tv or in its app. Tubi said in 2023 that its free service, including always-on channels, is available in Canada.

Install only from your device's official store. On Fire TV, our free live TV apps for Firestick guide covers the Appstore steps. The same apps also run on many smart TVs and on Chromecast with Google TV.

How do you watch CBC, CTV and Global without cable?

CBC Gem streams CBC Television live once you create a free account with a Canadian address. CTV's own app closed in 2026 and Bell Media moved CTV onto Crave, whose Premium plan lists live channels. Global's app is now STACKTV: Global News is free, and the full live Global lineup needs a STACKTV subscription or a TV provider login.

CBC explains the live streams in its Gem help article. Crave's plans page is where to confirm which plan includes live channels. Global's FAQ and STACKTV explain the free tier, the Prime Video subscription and TV provider sign-in.

A free Bell Media account on Crave unlocks some CTV shows, including CTV Movies and CTV Throwback, without a paid plan. That free access is not the same as the live channels.

Which paid live TV services actually operate in Canada?

Choose a paid service only for channels the free options miss. Fubo sells live TV plans in Canada, Crave carries Bell Media channels including live CTV on its Premium plan, and STACKTV on Prime Video carries Global and other Corus channels live. Open each site, confirm it accepts a Canadian address, and read the current plan before you pay.

Fubo's Canada help centre lists its plans and tells you to check fubo.tv for what is current. For live sports on TSN and Sportsnet, use our TSN and Sportsnet without cable guide.

The broader comparison of antennas, free apps and paid services, without the Canada-only lineup, is in how to watch live TV without cable.

Will a US-only live TV service work in Canada?

No. CBC Gem, STACKTV and the Canadian Fubo and Crave plans are licensed for Canada, and the apps check your location. A service that only sells plans in the United States will not replace them. If a show is missing, it is a rights limit, not a broken app, so check the Canadian plan page.

Device setup for the apps you do use is covered in the Firestick and Smart TV guides. Install official store apps only.

Quick answers

Do I need a smart TV to watch live TV without cable in Canada?

No. A streaming device on an HDMI port runs the same apps. CBC Gem lists Fire TV, Roku, Apple TV, Android TV, Samsung and LG TVs, Xbox and Chromecast. Fubo and STACKTV publish their own device lists, so check those before you buy hardware.

Is CBC Gem free without a cable subscription?

Yes. CBC says a free CBC Gem account, which needs a Canadian address, includes the live CBC Television stream and CBC shows on demand with ads. A paid Premium tier exists for ad-free on-demand viewing; live streams stay ad-supported.

Can I watch Global News without signing in?

Yes. STACKTV, which replaced the Global TV app, says Global News livestreams are free and unlocked, and that guests can open select free shows with no account. The full live Global lineup needs a STACKTV plan or a TV provider login.

What if a channel is missing?

Rights, not a broken app, are the usual reason. These services are licensed for Canada and check your location. Open the service's current plan page and confirm the channel is included before you subscribe or blame the device.

What is an IPTV app?

An IPTV app is the programme on your TV stick, smart TV, or phone that logs into your IPTV service, shows a guide, and plays live or on demand video. The app is not the channels themselves. Your provider supplies the service you sign into. This site explains how to choose and install players. It does not publish playlists.

Do you rank a number one IPTV app?

No. This site does not publish a number one rank or star scores. The shortlist, without ranks, is 7 MOTION TV, Zuno TV as a separate app, TiViMate, IPTV Smarters Pro, Smart IPTV, and GSE Smart IPTV. Always confirm which players your own IPTV provider supports before you install.

Which player do you feature?

7 MOTION TV is the featured recommendation for Fire Stick, Android TV, Google TV, and Android phones or tablets only. The exact Google Play title is Lecteur IPTV – 7 MOTION. It is not featured for Apple TV or as the Samsung and LG store pick. Setup still depends on your provider.

What about Samsung or LG TVs?

On Samsung and LG sets, start with Smart IPTV when it is in the TV store and your provider supports it. 7 MOTION TV is not the built in smart TV lead on this site. If the store listing is missing or the TV feels slow, add a Fire Stick or Android stick instead of modifying the TV.

What about Apple TV?

Apple TV uses the App Store, not Android packages. This site does not feature 7 MOTION TV on tvOS. Start with an App Store player your provider lists, often GSE Smart IPTV, and check availability in your country. AirPlay from iPhone or iPad is the fallback when a native tvOS app is missing.

Can I use Chromecast for IPTV?

Yes, in two ways. Classic Chromecast dongles are cast from a phone on the same Wi Fi. Chromecast with Google TV and Google TV Streamer can install apps, including featured 7 MOTION TV when your provider supports it. This site does not publish a fake number one Chromecast app.

Does this site publish prices, channel counts, or bitrates?

No. This site does not publish IPTV subscription prices, channel counts, bitrates, or a minimum bandwidth. A free trial length is also not stated here, because trial terms depend on your provider. For player setup help, message us on WhatsApp.

What is activation code 3717996?

Provider activation code 3717996, sometimes labeled Suno by resellers, is an IPTV or downloader setup path for Lecteur IPTV – 7 MOTION. It is not the Play app Suno AI Music. Enter it only in the IPTV player flow your seller documented. The Suno IPTV code page explains why this code is not a music app unlock.

What is Zuno?

Zuno is an IPTV application. We do not sell channels. This site sells only the app: no channels, no playlists, and no subscriptions are included on the Zuno page. The installable file is the official zuno-tv.apk from the GitHub release. No public playlist is included.

Is sideloading an IPTV app safe?

Only when you install a package your provider authorises, and only when unknown sources is limited to a trusted installer such as Downloader on Fire Stick. Prefer the Amazon Appstore, Google Play, the TV brand store, or the Apple App Store when the app is listed. This site does not promote cracked or pirated apps.
